Yikes!! I REALLY need to lose weight!

I went to a holiday party tonight and for the first time in my life, I was asked when I was due! (I do carry all of my extra weight around my middle, so it's an understandable mistake.) I just said, I'm not pregnant, just fat! I tried to make light of it so neither of us would feel too uncomfortable because she is a very nice person. Thankfully, that was my last holiday party for awhile and my stair stepper machine arrived today! I have to do a little bit of assembling to it and it's a pretty basic machine, but I couldn't afford that much and needed something that didn't take up much space in my small apartment. Starting tomorrow, I'm going to start putting on music, audiobook, movie, or TED Talks each day and go for as long as I can! My next goal is to find some good exercise videos online for free. When I have a little more money, I'll buy a small set of weights, too! I do NOT like being mistaken for a very pregnant woman! And do not want it to ever happen again!

Working on Losing the Weight!

While I can't afford to do some of the things on my list, such as travel, at the moment, I can work on getting down to my ideal weight. As much as I hate to admit this, I've needed to lose about 30 pounds for the last 8 years. My weight and bad eating habits have resulted in my developing Type II Diabetes about 5 years ago and I've already begun to feel some symptoms of the disease. Since being prescribed medications a few years ago, I haven't been good about taking them at all. At 42, having some kidney failure already and pain in my legs is pretty scary! I'm really hoping that my life is only about half over and I really need to take better care of myself to be able to make it that long. I've started using Sensa, which one of my friends used so successfully that she is now one of their spokespeople! I was bummed to find out that the apartment complex I moved into doesn't have a workout room. So, I'm going to have to buy some workout stuff on credit. Now that my daughter has moved out, I have room for some workout equipment. The equipment will be my Xmas present to myself! I also bought myself a pill container that I can put a week's worth of pills in. I had resisted doing this for a long time because I have always equated those containers with old people. But it took for too long each day to open each separate container when I was getting ready in the morning and I constantly forgot to take the pills that I'm supposed to take before bed. Now, it only takes a couple of seconds to open the lid on the container for that day of the week and I keep the container on my nightstand so that I remember to take the evening pills, too. My goal is to weigh 130 pounds by June 30, 2012. That will be a little over four pounds a month, which is very realistic. Time to order that workout equipment!

Where DO the days go??

This has been a rough year so far! I have been unemployed for the last 5 months and am currently separated from my husband. I've been battling depression that I'm finally starting to overcome and, if I ever needed something positive to focus on, it's now! I haven't had the energy or money to do much of my list this year, but I'm so close to finishing, that I can't give up on it. I'm not sure yet how I'm going to come up with the money to do the items on the list that require travel. So, for now, I'll have to continue on with things that I can do at home that are cheap or free, such as working my way through everything written by Shakespeare. That item alone is going to take awhile! Especially since I have a couple of book clubs going, too!

A New Museum for Every Month!!

I really enjoy going to museums, so the following list of 12 for each month of the year, is really only about a quarter of the ones that I've been to since I started this blog. I opted for the 12 most recent ones so that I didn't have to try to remember so far back!

1. Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum, Enid, OK
2. Arlington Plantation, Birmingham, AL
3. Martin Luther King National Historic Site, Birmingham, AL
4. Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum, Atlanta, GA
5. World of Coca-Cola Museum, Atlanta, GA
6. Margaret Mitchell House, Atlanta, GA
7. Anne Frank in the World Museum, Sandy Springs, GA
8. Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace, Savannah, GA
9. Mercer-Williams House Museum, Savannah, GA
10. Telfair Academy Art Museum, Savannah, GA
11. Old Exchange & Provost Dungeon, Charleston, SC
12. Boone Hall Plantation, Charleston, SC

Ate BBQ at the Original Arthur Bryant's in Kansas City, Missouri!!

My daughter and I were heading to Topeka, Kansas and, when I realized how close we would be to Kansas City, I just had to take the opportunity to cross off another item on my list and eat at the Original Arthur Bryant's restaurant! (There are a couple of locations in Kansas, but it had to be the original in Missouri!)

It was packed when we got there a little before noon, and the line was out the door by the time we got our food and found seats! When we first walked in, we weren't too impressed. The place is old, outdated, and had an odd smell. But the food was really good, especially the ribs!! They were, by far, the best ribs I've ever had! And that's saying something because Texas has some great BBQ!! However, if I ever go back, it will definitely be to one of the newer locations!

Pointed to a place on a map and went there!

During last school year, I closed my eyes and my students spun me around in front of a map of the United States. The first two tries, I ended up in the oceans, but on the third try, I landed on Topeka, Kansas! Of all places!!

It was about 6 months before I finally made it there in person, but my daughter and I spent the day in Topeka on the Friday after Thanksgiving. I can't say that it was anything special, but we enjoyed ourselves!

Roared at the Ocean!

Standing on the shore and roaring at the ocean on my trip didn't feel right because it was too calm and beautiful. So, instead, I had ended up having a big argument with the person I was traveling with and decided to yell at the ocean from the balcony of our stateroom at night because I wouldn't be heard by others on the ship over the loud music, strong winds, engine noise, and noise of the waves. It helped to be angry for this one because yelling like that isn't something that I feel comfortable doing. But, part of the point of this blog is to get out of my comfort zone!
